Paddle canada LEVEL 1 Sea Kayaking Course

Our instructors are Paddle Canada - formerly CRCA (Canadian Recreational Canoeing Association) certified! A two part ten-hour course. Learn the basics in the pool and at the beach. A ten hour course that includes:

Dock entry Wet exits without sprayskirts Wet exits with sprayskirts Self rescues without paddle float Self rescue with paddle float Assisted rescues Basic Kayak orientation Kayak etiquette Paddle Strokes (forward, back, forward sweep, reverse sweep stopping, turning with/out a rudder, sculling, draw stroke) Basic navigation Basic weather Trip Preparation Safety Packing your boat Equipment overview

A 2-hour pool sessions take place at the Frank Jameson Community Centre in Ladysmith. There are 8 hours of practical sessions take place at Sealegs' Eco-Adventure Centre at Transfer Beach. The course is held over a 2-day period and is open to individuals 12 years of age and over.

Upon completion of the course participants receive a Paddle Canada Level 1 Sea Kayaking certificate.

Our clinics take place at our Transfer Beach location and cost $69.00 + GST per person per session.  Advanced bookings are suggested. Space is limited.

custom Beach lessons

Our beach lessons, taught by Certified Paddle Canada Instructors are custom designed to meet the individual needs of each client. Custom lessons are offered for:

• those who would like to try kayaking for the first time
• those who would like to upgrade their paddling skills

You can ask to learn specific skills such as:

• wet exits
• self-rescues
• trip preparation
• basic paddle strokes
• advanced maneuvers
• outdoor cookery

Our custom beach lessons are held at our Transfer Beach location. Advanced bookings are required to make an appointment with one of our Certified Paddle Canada instructors.
